A narrative literature review on the development of a digital qiraat dictionary based on the curriculum needs of higher education institutions in Malaysia

Abstrak
Perkembangan teknologi digital telah membawa perubahan signifikan dalam kaedah pengajaran dan pembelajaran pelbagai bidang ilmu, termasuk pengajian al-Quran. Namun begitu, dalam konteks pengajian qiraat di institusi pengajian tinggi (IPT) di Malaysia, sumber rujukan utama masih banyak bergantung kepada kitab qiraat tradisional, nota pensyarah serta kaedah talaqqi musyafahah. Walaupun pendekatan tradisional ini penting bagi mengekalkan ketulenan bacaan dan sanad, keterbatasan bahan digital yang sistematik, mudah diakses serta selaras dengan keperluan kurikulum semasa menimbulkan cabaran kepada pelaksanaan pembelajaran kendiri dan fleksibel. Sehubungan itu, artikel ini bertujuan menjalankan sorotan literatur berkaitan pembangunan kamus digital dalam pendidikan, sumber rujukan qiraat, pelaksanaan kurikulum pengajian qiraat di IPT serta pendekatan reka bentuk berasaskan pengguna dalam teknologi pendidikan. Kajian menggunakan pendekatan sorotan literatur naratif yang diperkukuh dengan elemen sorotan sistematik melalui pencarian dalam pangkalan data akademik terpilih. Literatur dianalisis secara tematik bagi mengenal pasti pola dapatan, kecenderungan penyelidikan serta jurang kajian. Dapatan menunjukkan bahawa pembangunan kamus digital banyak tertumpu kepada pembelajaran bahasa umum, manakala aplikasi dalam disiplin qiraat masih terhad. Selain itu, pembangunan bahan digital qiraat yang dirangka secara khusus berdasarkan keperluan kurikulum IPT dan analisis keperluan pengguna didapati masih kurang diberi perhatian. Artikel ini seterusnya mencadangkan satu kerangka konseptual pembangunan kamus digital qiraat yang mengintegrasikan kandungan qiraat, struktur kurikulum IPT dan keperluan pengguna. Kajian ini menyumbang kepada pembinaan asas konseptual bagi pembangunan inovasi digital dalam pengajian qiraat serta menyokong agenda transformasi digital pendidikan al-Quran di peringkat pengajian tinggi.
Abstract
The advancement of digital technology has significantly transformed teaching and learning approaches across various disciplines, including Qur’anic studies. Nevertheless, in the context of Qiraat studies at higher education institutions (HEIs) in Malaysia, primary learning resources still rely heavily on classical Qiraat texts, lecturers’ notes, and the traditional talaqqi musyafahah method. While these approaches are essential for preserving the authenticity of recitation and transmission chains, the limited availability of systematic and accessible digital resources aligned with current curricular needs presents challenges for flexible and self-directed learning. This article aims to conduct a literature review on digital dictionary development in education, Qiraat reference sources, the implementation of Qiraat curricula in HEIs, and user-centered design approaches in educational technology. The study adopts a narrative literature review strengthened with systematic elements through searches in selected academic databases. The literature was analyzed thematically to identify research patterns, trends, and gaps. The findings reveal that most digital dictionary developments focus on general language learning, while applications in the specialized field of Qiraat remain limited. Furthermore, the development of Qiraat digital resources specifically designed based on higher education curriculum requirements and user needs has received minimal attention. In response, this article proposes a conceptual framework for developing a digital Qiraat dictionary that integrates Qiraat content, curricular requirements, and user needs.
